Restarting the Small Business NAKED show
You may have noticed, maybe not, but Small Business NAKED has been re-awakened. If so, you may be wondering: what’s the DEAL?
Here is the 411…I called Johnny about a month ago, and asked him if he would be willing to re-launch the show as a podcast. When I first started the show, it was on KLZ radio in Denver, CO. If you are not familiar with local radio, we actually bought the time on the station, and the show was produced for us. We could use the time to do whatever we wanted…within reason. If we wanted to sell advertising, it was up to us. This was the eventual downfall for the show. We were not able to build up enough sponsorship to support the show, and the cost was about $1100 per month (give or take).
Ever since we turned off the show, I wanted to re-start the show. It was a fantastic 10 months. Johnny and I loved talking to business owners. We loved coming into the station. We loved the whole process. We did not change over to podcasting at the time because we were a little fearful that guests wouldn’t want to come on. When we would ask folks to come on, we would usually be asked if it was “just a podcast, or a REAL show on the radio.” It gave us a level of credibility. The truth is that is was not based on reality, but based on perception.
Fast forward 4 years later, podcasting has come more main stream. A lot of people listen to podcasts. It is a great way to pass time while on a commute, in the gym, or doing a million of other random things. With smartphones being in everyone’s pockets, it just makes sense.
So now that we are launching again, what can you expect from Nick and Johnny?
We are going to focus on three things that all of our guests need to have:
They need to have FRUIT on their tree– meaning; they need to have started and ran a successful business. They may have sold it already, as in the case with Jerome Grady who started Colorado Ski and Golf, but they must have been successful.
They need to be FUN. We love talking to business owners who have great attitudes and have joy in live. They can’t be too serious. Again, refer to Jerome Grady.
They need to have a business that employs people. We are not super interested in interviewing solo-entrepreneurs. There are plenty of podcasts that interview these folks, and we just aren’t going to be that.
That is it. We will interview fun, interesting, and successful small business owners, and share their stories with you…the small business owner that wants to grow their business. Stay tuned, as we are planning to launch October 2nd with our first podcast. If you have questions, or know of a successful business owner that you want us to interview, please contact us.
